Stephanie Lue Yen was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. From early in her life she displayed artistic talent. After High School she was accepted into Jamaica’s premiere art school, Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. However, against her dreams of becoming a professional artist, Stephanie opted to pursue a Bachelor degree in Business, majoring in Marketing.
In 2010, after many years in the corporate world, Stephanie rediscovered her passion for art and decided to explore life as a full-time artist. She began with stained glass and mosaics then shifted focus to painting. After posting a few pieces on Facebook, she was approached by a local gallery to sell her paintings.
Stephanie’s vibrant pieces are greatly inspired by the colours and textures of the natural environment, especially that of the Caribbean. She is drawn to the abstract style of painting as an expression of freedom, for both the artist and the viewers as one painting can evoke different interpretations. She signs her work with her initials “SLY”.
Stephanie travels often letting new energies and diverse sceneries inspire new creations. Her work has been exhibited in both Jamaica and the USA and her pieces can be found in private collections in Kingston, Doha, London, Bologna and San Francisco, to name a few.
Stephanie is also the founder and Creative Director of ARTIFY (artifyja.com), which facilitates art workshops and camps for adults and children in Jamaica.
